Will Formula 1 surprisingly return to Hockenheim in the course of the year? The organizers of the motorsport premier class are obviously thinking of a comeback of the traditional racetrack in Germany when planning an adapted calendar.
Hockenheim was not planned for 2020, but has now been contacted. The management of the Baden course is open to the possible staging.
According to their own statements, the operators could quickly set up a Grand Prix in a light version. “Within a week, we could do it in a significantly slimmed-down version,” says Jochen Nerpel, who runs the business on Hockenheim-Ring, among other things.
Withdrawal for financial reasons
The advantages of the course are only too well known to the Formula 1 bosses during the crisis: The Hockenheim-Ring has tradition, experience and reliability.
Formula 1 had a guest at the Motodrom for the 37th time last year. The spectacular race in Germany could only be saved by a sponsorship from Mercedes. For 2020, the German Grand Prix could not be financed by the operators.
