Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo make a surprise by overthrowing Kento Momota in the first round of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) 2022 at Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Wednesday (27/4) morning.
Chico became the first representative of Indonesia to appear on the second day of BAC 2022. The men’s singles ranked 52 in the world faced the first seed and defending champion of BAC, Kento Momota.
Facing Momota who is one of the world’s top badminton players, Chico is not afraid. Since the first game Chico has been leading the points.
Had led 7-2, Chico then received fierce resistance from Momota. The score went to 10-10 before the interval of the first game when Chico led 11-10.
In the first half of the game Chico continued to try to maintain the lead, but after a 17-15 advantage Chico failed to gain further points. Chico lost 17-21.
Entering the second game, Chico started the game well again. The PBSI national team badminton player won 8-0. Chico then led 11-6 at the interval of the first game.
Momota didn’t just let Chico go far. Chico’s advantage was reduced to just two points at 15-13. After that, Chico was able to stay away from Momota and secure the second game with a score of 21-17.
Just like the previous two games, Chico made a good start. Chico recorded the lead slowly from 2-0 to 6-2 and 11-4.
After the third game interval, Chico went unstoppable and led 14-4. Chico’s defense and attack looked slick, making it difficult for the main seed BAC 2022.
Chico closed the third game with a 21-7 victory while securing a way to the second round. In the second round Chico will meet the winner of the match Lee Cheuk Yiu against Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik.
