Surabaya City Health Office Administers Polio Vaccine to 329,616 Children in Second Wave of National Immunization Sub-Week

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — The Surabaya City Health Service (Dinkes) has scheduled the second wave of the National Immunization Sub-Week (PIN) for Polio to be held for one week, namely simultaneously in 31 sub-districts on 19-25 February 2024.

Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina, through an official statement, said Sub PIN Polio for children aged 0 to 8 years more one day. Their number is 329,616 children.

“The implementation of socialization has started in the second week of February 2024 and will be massively strengthened starting in the third week of February 2024,” said Nanik, Saturday (10/2/2024).

Implementation of the second wave of Polio Sub PINs is in accordance with Surabaya City Health Office Circular Letter Number 400.7.7.2/2763/436.7.2/2024. Nanik explained that preparations at each health service facility were continuing to be finalized so far.

He has also coordinated with several regional officials, professional organizations and community organizations. “We also coordinate with the private sector, including CSR, in gathering support for immunization service centers in public places (TTU), family recreation and entertainment facilities,” he said.

Nanik added that data collection was carried out by optimizing the recording and reporting of Sub PIN Polio activities using the Local Area Monitoring (PWS) application.

“We are also intensifying massive promotional and educational efforts, related to the implementation of the second round of Sub PIN Polio in the city of Surabaya,” he said.

It is hoped that the implementation of the upcoming second round of the Sub PIN Polio activity program can be achieved according to the target. This is so that children’s community immunity against Polio transmission in the city of Surabaya is formed.

The first stage of Sub PIN Polio in Surabaya City which was held on January 15-21 reached 341,612 children or 103.64 percent. This achievement exceeds the target set for the local city, namely 329,616 children.

One of the indicators that causes high coverage rates polio vaccination in Surabaya because of public awareness to voluntarily include their children in the vaccination program.
