Last year, Philips Hue announced that support for the Original Bridge v1 (1st generation) was discontinued. Now the company reminds again that it will be ready by the end of April 2020.

Philips Hue recalls: Support for the bridge (1st generation) ends in April

Most of you should be familiar with the smart products from Philips Hue. In addition to numerous lamps and lights that the company offers, there are now also buttons, motion detectors and Co. The networking of the devices started with a round bridge (1st generation). This was replaced by a square bridge (2nd generation) a few years ago. The Bridge v2 ensures, among other things, that you can also integrate Philips Hue into HomeKit.

While numerous users are already using the second bridge generation, there are certainly still some users on the other side who still rely on the original bridge. With a tweet, Philips Hue reminds once again that support for the Bridge v1 will end on April 30th, 2020.

Nevertheless, the original bridge can still be used after the deadline, like Philips Hue in one Support document explained

After April 30, 2020, software updates for Hue Bridge Version 1 will no longer be available and compatibility with our online services will end. Hue Bridge Version 1 can only be controlled locally using the special Philips Hue Bridge Version 1 app.

In short: the online services are no longer available and in the future there will be no more security, quality and interoperability updates for the Hue Bridge v1.
