It has already been reported that the Re: Baltica Center for Investigative Journalism has previously announced that the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) is preparing changes to the Education Law that would make distance learning with smart devices a future form of face-to-face learning. a device with an internet connection is one of the individual learning accessories provided to the student by the family.

However, the Ombudsman Juris Jansons has pointed out that if every parent, without exception, has to provide his offspring with smart devices, the free education guaranteed by the Satversme will in fact be denied. The Ombudsman is concerned that if a computer or smart device with an Internet connection should be provided to parents, how will the issue be resolved if the family cannot provide it due to financial or technological reasons.
