James Gunn has announced that filming has begun on the new Superman movie, which reboots the new cinematic universe he is creating for DC with Peter Safran.
He also revealed that the film which was titled ‘Superman: Legacy’ will simply be called ‘Superman’.
“Very excited to announce the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29th, which happens to be, coincidentally and unplanned, Superman’s birthday,” he captioned his Instagram post, accompanying it with a close-up of the logo that has the superhero costume.
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the movie ‘Superman: Legacy.’ The moment I locked the final script, it was clear that the title was going to be ‘SUPERMAN’. We are coming in July 2025,” he added.
American actor David Corenswet (David Corenswet) known for his roles in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood” was chosen to wear the “red cape of Superman”.
In the role of the reporter “Lois Lane” the Emmy winner for her performance in the series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Rachel Brosnahan (Rachel Brosnahan) while Nicholas Hoult (Nicholas Hoult) has the role of Lex Luthor.
Also in the cast are Skyler Gisondo, Anthony Carrigan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillon and Isabela Mercad.
According to Variety, the movie “Superman” is expected to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
