Sunrise is eating up market share in certain segments of Swiss telecoms.

The little Sunrise claims 350 million from the blue giant…

At the end of 2019, justice confirmed what was catching the eye … From 2001 to 2007, Swisscom abused its dominant position on the market by applying a pricing policy for its ADSL services which hampered competition. Sunrise claims 350 million francs in damages. Swisscom will examine the request, which speaks volumes!

The blue ogre who appealed on appeal and dragged out everything he could the procedure for almost ten years has indeed not enough to do the trick. It must be said that it is in his DNA; Swisscom is viscerally allergic to any form of competition and will always do everything possible to try to regain its monopoly position …

Swisscom or the art of thinking that it has all the rights …

“Swisscom has abused its dominant position on the market, has hindered competition and has thereby damaged the market. In the best interests of our customers and our shareholders, we are now bringing an action for damages in court, “said André Krause, CEO of Sunrise.

“Sunrise hopes that its request will be dealt with quickly, although experience has shown that Swisscom will probably use all the remedies and proceedings available to it to have the trial last for years before a final judgment on the payment of damages and interest is not returned, ”writes the Swiss telecoms challenger, who has no illusions.

Swisscom above democracy?

Swisscom is reacting very cautiously. “Swisscom will examine the request. No information will be given on the current legal proceedings. The commercial forecasts (“guidance”) for the current financial year remain unchanged. Provisions have been made for possible civil law claims, “he wrote. As with Sunrise, only the financial results count!

My comment? Both Sunrise and Swisscom are terrible money-hungry sharks and care only very marginally about the interests of their customers, initially considered to be cash cows, who are also indecent in claiming reliable networks. A roof! Whole sectors of the private economy are light years away from such a mentality. If this voracity can unfortunately be conceived in a Sunrise, it is different with Swisscom, which belongs to the Swiss…

Well, not exactly. Observer of the Swiss telecoms market for ages, I too often have the impression that the interests of Swisscom absolutely take precedence over everything and in particular those of democracy and Switzerland. To be convinced, all you have to do is look at how this champion of all categories of lobbying goes about it so as not to deploy the very strategic optical fiber … Anyway, the money that Sunrise will recover will likely benefit only its cash-hungry shareholders. Pity.
