(02.01.2024) Sunhild Pfeiffer, director of the Frankfurt Wind School, will receive the Schumann Prize 2023 for special music-educational achievements. The Robert Schumann Society Frankfurt am Main eV is honoring the commitment of the music teacher who founded the wind instrument school in 2016 and has directed it ever since.

With great commitment, Sunhild Pfeiffer developed the Frankfurt Wind School into a well-known and popular institution far beyond the Main metropolis. Currently, 63 students between the ages of 9 and 18 have formed 13 ensembles, which primarily perform at church services, but also add musical splendor to many other events in the city of Frankfurt.

Sunhild Pfeiffer always strives to provide children and young people with “real-life social studies” through the selection of projects and performances and thus to sharpen historical awareness. The ensembles of the Frankfurt Wind School performed, for example, B. at the commemoration of the outbreak of the Second World War in the Kaisersaal; The young brass players also helped organize the commemoration of the Reich Progrom Night and the Advent café for the homeless and poor in St. Katharinenkirche.

The Schumann Prize for special music education achievements is endowed with EUR 10,000 and is mainly supported by generous funding from Dr. Marschner Foundation and the Polytechnic Society Foundation in Frankfurt am Main. The Robert Schumann Society Frankfurt am Main has been awarding this prize since 2012.

The awarding of the Schumann Prize to Sunhild Pfeiffer will take place as part of the New Year’s Concert of the Frankfurt Wind School on Sunday, January 28, 2024, 6 p.m., in the Evangelical St. Katharinenkirche, An der Hauptwache, Frankfurt/Main.
