After long months of closure, the museums are open again. This is the opportunity to discover or rediscover these places of culture. Here is a selection of five museums located in the metropolis of Lille (North), as well as programming that they offer from this month of June and for the rest of summer 2021.
1 / The Roubaix swimming pool museum
Emblematic place of Roubaix, you can admire its architecture with its swimming pool surrounded by statutes. In addition to this sumptuous setting, many collections are exhibited in the museum. For example, the retrospective on the sculptor Joseph Bernard visible from June 26 to September 5, 2021 or the project Le Bleu du Ciel. This work, produced by Édouard Taufenback and Régis Campo, was awarded the Swisslife Prize for 4 hands. She mixes both music and photography, the recipe for a moment of escape and poetry.
2 / The Palace of Fine Arts
Located on Place de la République, the Palais des Beaux-Arts is also renowned for its architecture, whether seen from the outside or from the inside. The site has a wide variety of permanent collections in addition to temporary exhibitions such as the one entitled Le Regard d’Hélène visible until September 12. The most of this exhibition? It is exhibited both within the museum, but also outside it on the Boulevard de la Liberté, the Place de la République or the Place de Wazemmes. Enough to contemplate these photographs in the great outdoors. In addition, the 7th edition of the Open Museum event begins this Wednesday, June 16 with the guest of comic book author François Boucq on the theme of trompe-l’oeil.
3 / The Natural History Museum
This is a museum that should amaze children. The Lille Natural History Museum is full of intriguing and fascinating animals between the zoology area, the insectarium and the large glass roof.
In addition, two collections for children are currently visible at the museum, in addition to the many activities offered. Firstly, the exhibition Ni méchant ni gentil on the perception of the wolf in the child’s imagination, installed until January 9, 2022. Second, a rather special ephemeral collection visible until September 5 which brings together the creations that children have carried out during confinement on the theme of “the animal of your dreams”.
4 / Le LaM
Not far from Lille in the town of Villeneuve-d’Ascq is the museum of modern, contemporary and raw art. Currently, you can find the event exhibition named Denouement of Guillermo Kuitca. Likewise, many activities around these works such as shows or screenings are scheduled on the site. In addition, the European Night of Museums event will take place on July 3, the opportunity to spend the night at the museum!
5 / The Hospice Comtesse museum
Finally, the Hospice Comtesse museum is located in the historic heart of Lille. This former hospital has become the city’s art and history museum. Visiting this place allows you to travel through time while learning the history of Lille in the 17th and 18th centuries, but also to discover some of the collections kept at the Hospice Comtesse which bring together various forms of art. Currently, you can check out Kai Wu’s exhibition titled Art and Design in China.
This is what to take care of!
