Please tell us more about the registered trademark!
In fact, we had the idea of registering a trademark a long time ago. However, somehow the decision about it was always postponed – somehow the whole process seemed long, time-consuming and overly complicated. At least that was the impression. However, thanks to the Association of Latvian Performers and Producers (LaIPA) and the educational platform “Autorskola”, we realized that everything is not as crazy as it seemed… This is what it means when everything is explained clearly and step by step! Then we also decided to start the trademark registration process. We have now registered a trademark on the name “Very Cool People”.
Initially, I had thought to register only the band’s logo as a trademark. However, when we went for a consultation at the Patent Board, which is responsible for trademarks in Latvia, they explained to us the difference and advantages of each type of trademark. In the end, we decided in favor of the word mark.

Our trademark will be applicable directly to the creative and entertainment industries, because we wouldn’t mind if a shoe store suddenly opened with the same name, but if another musical association appeared, then it would be a different story…
In general, it was important for us to protect our band name in the music and entertainment world – to be the only ones with that name. Of course, also that big brands do not start, for example, to produce T-shirts or other items of clothing using our name. Because we still have our own sauces (English merchandise, Latvian – representation materials)! That is why we chose the word mark for clothing and cultural events. In the future, we will continue this process by registering our logo and other trademarks as well.
