New York – The two South Tyrolean tennis players Andreas Seppi and Jannik Sinner each won a victory in their opening matches at the US Open in New York.

As Alto Adige reports online, Sinner was able to prevail against the Australian Max Purcell in four sets, while Seppi won against Marton Fucsovics from Hungary in a spectacular match that lasted over four hours.

The 37-year-old has canceled a total of five match points. In five sets he managed to defeat his opponent. While Fucsovics won the first set with 6: 2, the tennis professional from Kalter won the following two sets with 7: 5 and 6: 4. The Hungarian leveled it 6-2.

The fifth set finally led to the tiebreaker, in which Seppi triumphed 15 to 13. Both players had a total of five chances to turn a match point into victory in the tie-break, but could not make use of this opportunity.

Sinner is in the second round of the US Open for the first time. He defeated the Australian who entered the tournament with a wild card.
