The eye mission in Mungra Medical Center (MMC) in Nickerie, carried out by Surinamese healthcare professionals, can be described as successful. All selected candidates underwent cataract surgery without any complications, resulting in very satisfied patients. In addition, the team of Surinamese healthcare professionals has started a new eye treatment in MMC.
This treatment is specifically aimed at patients with internal eye bleeding and eye abnormalities due to, among other things, diabetes mellitus. During this treatment, the eye is injected with a special medication, which leads to improvement of the condition of the affected eye and the prevention of blindness. The aim is for the mission to return to MMC in April 2024 to serve the Nickerian community.
