The new road traffic regulations have been in force for three weeks – but now he is partly taking back the harsher penalties for traffic offenders.
In particular, Andreas Scheuer (45, CSU) is withdrawing the driving ban for speed violators who have exceeded the maximum speed in urban areas with 21 kilometers or out of town with 26 kilometers per hour. Scheuer admitted that this regulation was disproportionate.

Up until three weeks ago, driving licenses were only withdrawn in the event of a one-off violation from 31 km / h in town and 41 km / h outside.
Scheuer had admitted that the new rules had caused “excitement” among drivers and that further revisions were necessary. There were a total of 100 change requests. He was in contact with the federal states to give new advice to the regulations.
A new amendment for the second half of the year is in the works. This involves adjustments in the course of the reform of the motorway administration. In future, the federal government will take care of the motorway network from a single source.
The changes are now intended to increase public acceptance and restore the “sense of justice”. A petition entitled “Undo the driving license case of the StVO amendment” had more than 135,000 supporters.
The Federal Council tightened Scheuer’s bill to change the new road traffic regulations now in force, including the rule on driving bans for speeders. Scheuer said that the Ministry could then choose to accept or reject the whole package as a whole. The new road traffic regulations bring great progress for more traffic safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
