Verdi calls on Lufthansa employees to go on warning strike on Wednesday. All Lufthansa flights at Stuttgart Airport have already been cancelled. In total, more than 1000 flights are cancelled.

July 26 update: Lufthansa is canceling more than 1,000 flights due to the warning strike announced on Wednesday. Also the Stuttgart Airport is affected – but not as much as other airports in Germany. Like an airport spokeswoman opposite echo24.de states, all flights between Stuttgart and Munich have been canceled from the flight plan for Wednesday 27 July. In total, however, the warning strike only affects five flights that are canceled at Stuttgart Airport – Lufthansa currently does not offer any destinations other than Munich from Stuttgart.

Passengers whose flights are canceled will receive further information directly from Lufthansa. For example, whether the flight ticket can be used as an alternative train ticket for domestic flights.

All Lufthansa flights canceled at Stuttgart Airport – warning strike

In total, more than 1000 flights are said to be canceled like that German Press Agency (dpa) reported. Around 134,000 passengers are affected by the flight cancellations. The all-day strike is scheduled to begin at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning, as Verdi has announced. According to the latest reports, flight cancellations may also have to be expected on Thursday and Friday.

This will hit the German hubs in Frankfurt and Munich particularly hard. In addition to the hubs, the airports in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen, Hanover, Stuttgart and Cologne are also affected. The Lufthansa Group usually maintains smaller units there, which also offer their services to other airlines.

Passengers without transfers should not come to the airports because “little if any” service counters will be open there, the company warned. Lufthansa also warned transfer passengers against flying to the German hubs without a connecting flight. There is a risk that guests will not be able to travel there for several hours or days.

Warning strike on Wednesday: Lufthansa cancels over 1000 flights

The first strike at Lufthansa after the Corona shock comes against the background of a partially chaotic restart in the industry. Personnel bottlenecks and a strong demand for vacations have already led to considerable processing problems this summer without any strikes. Verdi blames mismanagement at airports and airlines for this and has called on Lufthansa ground staff to go on a warning strike in view of a current wage conflict.

Lufthansa strike: How badly is Stuttgart Airport affected?

First report from July 25th: On Wednesday (July 27) there is a threat of total flight chaos in Germany – in line with the start of the summer holidays in Baden-Württemberg. The Verdi union is calling on around 20,000 ground staff to go on a nationwide warning strike in order to increase the pressure on the ongoing wage negotiations. Like Stuttgart Airport echo24.de-Inquiry informs, the warning strike of the Lufthansa employees the passengers in the state capital but hardly meet. Because: There are hardly any Lufthansa planes at Stuttgart Airport.

Stuttgart Airport: Passengers will hardly be affected by the Lufthansa strike

“Lufthansa currently only offers the feeder flight to Munich from Stuttgart,” explains a spokeswoman for the airport. “Since the strike was announced in advance, the airline will inform its passengers in good time about the effects and alternatives.” According to the airport spokeswoman, only five flights from Stuttgart to Munich are planned for Wednesday.

The route to Frankfurt is currently not being flown, only again in August. It is said that the flight ticket was used as a train ticket here. “Lufthansa does not currently offer any other destinations from Stuttgart.” Passengers from other airlines are not affected by the warning strike.

Lufthansa strike: At these airports, passengers must expect chaos

At other German airports, on the other hand, passengers have to be prepared for considerable restrictions. Lufthansa employees in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Bremen, Hanover, Stuttgart and Cologne have been called to strike. Lufthansa was initially unable to say how many flights would be canceled on Monday. Ground crew warning strikes are scheduled to begin at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday and last until 6:00 a.m. Thursday (July 28). As always in strike situations, a special flight plan is being drawn up, reports the German Press Agency (dpa).

The union expects increased flight cancellations and delays. Very different groups of employees, such as counter staff, aircraft technicians or the drivers of the huge tow tractors that push aircraft into the correct positions at the airport, have been called to the all-day warning strike. Without these services, the jets cannot take off any more than they do without pilots or cabin crew. Since the services are also offered to other airlines outside the group, failures are also possible there, according to Verdi.

In general, there is currently great concern that there will be chaos waiting at airports, especially during the summer holidays. echo24.de reported as travelers can shorten waiting times at check-in at Stuttgart Airport.
