Study sponsored by Facebook calls ATT “harmful” – iTopnews.de – Current Apple news & discounts on iPhone, iPad & Mac

A barely unbiased study of Apple’s anti-tracking measures was published.

It is 22 pages long and bears the title “Harming Competition and Consumers Under the Guise of Protecting Privacy” – in German: “Damage to competition and consumers under the guise of protecting privacy”. The subject is iOS 14.5 and Apple’s ATT feature.

Focus on Facebook – as a victim

The company that paid for the study is quoted on 11 pages: Facebook. The authors of the paper are D. Daniel Sokol from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law and Feng Zhu from Harvard Business School.

They claim to have come to the conclusion that Apple is using the pretext of protecting user data to distort competition because Facebook and other companies are deprived of advertising opportunities. It will be like that, among other things formulated:

While Apple’s iOS 14 policy changes have been disguised as a privacy measure, they are damaging the entire ad-supported ecosystem – from developers to advertisers to end users. By severely limiting the ability of third-party apps to create value through personalized advertising, Apple’s actions are undermining competition.

And further:

Without convincing explanations of how the policy changes are the least anti-competitive means of improving consumer privacy and why those changes do not apply to Apple’s own apps and services, Apple may find it difficult to justify its exclusive behavior.

An attack on Cupertino that underscores the opinion of Facebook and its CEO. For similar reasons, Mark Zuckerberg can no longer speak well of Apple – iTopnews.de reported.
