A Mediterranean cyclone will mark the weather in almost all of Southeast Europe in the coming days. Currently, its center is over Italy and the Adriatic Sea, but is slowly moving east-northeast.
Rain on the plains and snow in the mountains will start early on Saturday morning – first in southwestern Bulgaria and later in other parts of the country. Significant quantities are expected in the districts of Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Haskovo. There, the amount of precipitation per day will reach 50-60 liters per square meter. New snow cover will accumulate in the mountain massifs. The wind will be dangerously strong – in the southernmost parts of the country at speeds over 100 km / h.
Morning temperatures will range from 0 to 5 degrees in the western half of the country, to about 10 around the coast. In the afternoon the thermometers will fluctuate between 4-5 degrees in the west to 15-16 in the east.
During the night before Sunday in Eastern Bulgaria the precipitation will temporarily decrease and will stop. In the west, the wind will turn from the northwest, which will bring down temperatures with snow conditions. In the areas of the east on Sunday afternoon it will rain, here and there with thunderstorm activity. During the day the wind will weaken. Temperatures will be in similar ranges as on Saturday.
The onset of cold weather will gradually cover more areas to the east. It will snow in the eastern regions on Monday night. Daily temperatures will drop significantly and will be in the range of minus 1-2 to 5-6 degrees. Around Wednesday-Thursday the precipitation will be mostly of light snow, but it will be in isolated places with a tendency for the clouds to break for a while and for the sun to appear. The mornings will be especially cold with temperatures in some areas down to minus 6-7 degrees.
Towards the end of next week, the forecasts are for a cold front with lower temperatures and snowfall.
