Stripclub on the Amsterdam Red Light District hit by corona outbreak | NOW

A strip club on the Red Light District in Amsterdam has been hit by a corona outbreak. A municipal spokesperson confirmed this to NU.nl on Wednesday after reports from, among others, The Parool in The Telegraph. At least ten staff members and at least one visitor have been tested positive for the virus.

The strip club owner has closed the property. According to The Telegraph it concerns strip club La Vie en Proost in the Warmoesstraat.

Giel Zwaan, the owner of the strip club, tells the newspaper that one of his customers reported after a positive corona test. Employees were called up to be tested.

Ten out of forty employees were found to have contracted the virus. “We did not expect that, because we observe the measures carefully. Fortunately, people have no to mild complaints,” Zwaan told the newspaper.

The GGD suspects that more customers of the strip club have become infected. People with complaints are therefore called upon to have themselves tested. The names and numbers of customers who have been in the case are transferred by Zwaan to the health service. Many of the visitors come from abroad.

In the past two weeks, the number of corona infections in the city has tripled. From Wednesday on, wearing a mask in certain parts of Amsterdam, including the Red Light District, is mandatory.
