In recent weeks, the Swedish Public Health Agency has received an increased number of corona cases linked to travel abroad. Some are football fans who return home after the European Championship finals, but it is mainly about Swedes as a tourist in Spanish holiday resorts such as Barcelona and Mallorca, according to Anders Tegnell.
– It is Spain that stands out in the Swedish statistics. It does not seem to be the football fans from Russia.
People infected with the virus abroad now account for a significant proportion of the new cases in Sweden.
– These cases make up somewhere between ten and fifteen percent of all cases in Sweden, perhaps even more. At the same time, there is a large number of blacks. From being quite negligible, it has become a fairly large part of the spread of infection, says Anders Tegnell.
The people have often been infected in nightclubs and pubs, according to the Public Health Agency.
The development gets the authority to tighten the recommendations for entry into Sweden. All travelers, even asymptomatic, from countries outside the Nordic region are now recommended to test for covid-19. The Council is valid until 31 August.
The recommendation does not apply to those who have traveled in EU countries and have been vaccinated with a dose at least three weeks before arrival in Sweden or those who have had covid-19 during the past six months.
So far, the cases linked to trips abroad have not created any major chains of infection after the home diet to Sweden, according to Anders Tegnell.
– There does not seem to be any extensive spread of infection around these cases right now. If it has only been luck so far or what it depends on, we do not know, says the state epidemiologist.
