Strict action on littering: Saudi Arabia with caveat

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has warned that tough action will be taken against those dumping waste. Saudi Arabia has announced that such people will be severely punished. Those who throw litter through the windows of vehicles, buildings or while walking will now be fined between 200 and 1000 riyals.

This has been clarified in the new Waste Management Act. Anyone who scatters waste inside the containers and takes out recyclable waste will be fined from a minimum of 1,000 Riyals to a maximum of 10,000 Riyals.

A fine of 20,000 Riyals will be imposed if rubbish is not removed following construction demolition and renovation works. A fine of up to 50,000 Riyals will be imposed if construction waste is dumped on other people’s property or in public places. Officials said if large household waste such as mattresses and furniture is left in undesignated areas and along roads, a fine of up to 1,000 riyals will be charged.
