Straka misses cut at US PGA final tournament

Sepp Straka missed the cut in the first final tournament of the US PGA Tour and a share of the prize money of 9.5 million dollars. After a round of 70 on Friday in Norton near Boston (par 71) with a total score of one over par four strokes were missing for the qualification for the third and fourth day.

Frequent player Straka was unable to play the form of earlier weeks at the end of his second season in North America. He would have secured the tour ticket for the 2020/21 season thanks to his placements, but because of the coronavirus crisis there is no “relegated”.

Scheffler only needs 59 strokes

Scottie Scheffler managed a rare dream lap. The American is the eleventh professional to have finished a round in less than 60 strokes in the history of the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old from Dallas made a dream round of 59 in Boston on Friday. Scheffler played twelve birdies and six pars on the 18 holes of the par 71 course.

On day two of the first play-off tournament of the multi-million dollar FedExCup at TPC Boston, there was almost a novelty on the US tour: The former world number one Dustin Johnson missed the chance of another round of 59 with his last stroke and played at the end a 60. Never in the history of the PGA Tour have two players completed a round of less than 60 strokes in a tournament.

Jim Furyk from the USA is the only professional who has managed the feat twice. In 2013 he played a round of 59 in Lake Forest, Illinois. Three years later he succeeded in Cromwell in the US state of Connecticut with 58 strokes, the lowest round so far.
