Story of Yennel Diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome: Fainting After Winning Competition

At the beginning of the diagnosis, Yennel received drugs in the form of steroids. Currently, he is no longer taking the drug even though he is still taking hydrochloroquine and vitamin D.

“I was already dry in 2014. If I eat, even now, I have to be careful. So don’t eat a lot, half a spoon, you have to drink water. Previously, I used to choke,” he said.

Doctor Alvina Widhani from the Allergy Division of Clinical Immunology, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, who also handles Yennel, said that Yennel had quite complete symptoms of Sjogren’s syndrome.

“Ms. Yennel is one of those whose symptoms are complete, meaning symptoms outside the gland,” said Alvina at the same opportunity.

“So Sjogren’s syndrome typically affects various glands such as the tear glands, salivary glands, then sweat glands. So the main symptom of this is dryness, such as in the eyes, mouth, and skin. That is often the first symptom to appear.”
