Storm, Storm | The entire warehouse blown into the sea: – I could have lost my life

(Nordlys) – The entire building went into the sea. There is nothing left. Kaia is from Reno. It’s absolutely crazy, says Ingvard Lorentzen on the phone from Ersfjordbotn.

Things have been tough on Kvaløya this afternoon. Since around 13:00 strong gusts of wind have caused problems, and this afternoon it could have gone really wrong.

Could have died

The old hose shed at the fish farm in Ersfjordbotn was simply blown into the sea.

– It’s completely wild. All four walls, roof and contents. All blown away. We call it the sløyskuret, but it is actually a warehouse building of 150 square meters that lies crushed in the sea. There was a lot of equipment and stock for the Bryggejentene there, so a lot of valuables have been lost, says Lorentzen.

Nevertheless, there is luck in accidents. No one was injured.

– There have been tourists here today who have gone to the shore to take pictures of the storm, and Lerøy’s employees who work on the quay were fortunately indoors when the sea hit. We can replace things, but luckily no life was lost. It could have gone very wrong if this had happened earlier today, says Lorentzen.

Had secured

They had also secured what they could secure on the pier ahead of the predicted storm.

– All loose objects had been taken in and the quay and the plating had been cleaned. We had tied down what we couldn’t take in, but it is impossible to ensure that entire buildings are blown away by the wind.

Warns

The fire service has been on the scene and cordoned off the area on Wednesday afternoon. There is now a warning against traveling outside the area.

– It is very dangerous to travel here now. There are loose steel plates that, in the worst case scenario, can cut your head off. We just have to wait for the wind to calm down before we get a complete overview, but there are no values that we can save here, says Lorentzen.
