Storm chaos at BER Airport – Hundreds are waiting for their luggage

At the capital’s airport BER, there were delays in handling due to storm “Zeynep”. Hundreds of passengers are waiting for their luggage.

Despite strong gusts of wind in Berlin, passengers at Berlin-Brandburg Airport (BER) can fly – but without luggage. “What is otherwise normal, that luggage and passengers fly together, is now partly separated because of the storm,” said a spokesman for BER. Since late Friday evening, hundreds of passengers who had arrived despite the storm had waited in vain for their suitcases.

Due to the storm, the airport stopped loading baggage. Travelers should collect their suitcases on Saturday. There were also long queues at the taxi rank. According to the airport’s arrival board, the flights themselves arrived on schedule despite the hurricane Zeynep.

Berlin: Restrictions expected until Saturday noon

A spokesman confirmed that the situation would not change until mid-Saturday. Until then, restrictions can still be expected. Due to the high wind speeds, it is still the case that luggage often cannot be loaded or unloaded from the aircraft.

“But we hope that things will normalize then,” said a spokesman for BER Airport.
