Storm between Anwar Ibrahim and Mahathir Mohamad Continues in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

The storm between the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim with former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad is not finished. Both of them throw accusations at each other.

This chaos started when Mahathir suddenly made a loud call to Anwar. He asked Anwar to prove that he had abused his authority.

Reported The StarMonday (27/3/2023), Mahathir made this call after Anwar alluded to a figure he said had controlled state resources for himself during decades in power.

“Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must show proof that I used my position as prime minister to benefit myself and my family,” said Mahathir in his statement.

“Accusations are easy to make when they are not proven by facts and evidence,” he continued.

Mahathir’s statement was made on Monday (27/3) local time, after Anwar said he once knew someone who fully controlled Malaysian resources for himself and his family during a reign that lasted 22 years and 22 months.

Mahathir later said he released the statement because he felt the Malays in his country had lost everything since he stepped down as Malaysian PM.

“Malays have become poor since I stepped down for the first time. I tried to improve their situation during my second term as Prime Minister, but the Pakatan Harapan government collapsed, I lost my post, and I am speaking out now because of this,” he said.

Mahathir also said that Malays should oppose Anwar’s unity government for allegedly preventing the pro-Malay gathering event he is holding. It is known, the event was canceled after three event locations canceled the order of the organizers.

Mahathir demanded Anwar to apologize. He said that Anwar did not mention his name, but he felt that Anwar’s speech about abuse of power was clearly aimed at him.

“Although the Prime Minister did not mention my name in his speech, it is clear he was referring to me,” Mahathir said in a press conference on Tuesday (28/3) local time.

“Who else has led this country for 22 years plus another 22 months as prime minister,” he continued.
