Stories: Signal becomes the popular WhatsApp feature

In Messenger WhatsApp, Stories have long been a feature to tell contacts what you have in mind or where you are right now. Like the online portal reports heise.dethe Signal Messenger will soon also be equipped with a story function.

So far, the new feature is available for use by smartphone messenger beta testers. The current versions are Android version number 5.52 and the iOS 5.57 app for Apple handhelds. It is not yet known when exactly the new version of the messenger will be made available to all users.

With the new Stories feature of Signal Messenger, texts, images and videos can be shared with contacts. User-generated posts from Stories can be viewed by contacts via a dedicated tab within the app.

According to the current state, the story should be able to be shared as a “private story” with selected contacts or with members of a group or contacts from individual chats. Published stories should disappear again 24 hours after publication. It is therefore up to the individual user himself whether to check the corresponding card daily to see if the contacts have posted a story or not. The story poster must also verify for itself who viewed the post.

Stories can be disabled

Signal Messenger users who want nothing to do with it should be able to disable the Stories feature. Plus, the stories are end-to-end encrypted.

Late last month, Signal developers released new versions for mobile operating systems. With the iOS version 5.4, among other things, a problem with the registration on the new iPhones and iPads is to be solved. Additionally, blocked contacts should no longer appear in the user’s contact list.

Other current reports cover WhatsApp Messenger and the topics of short links and subscriptions for up to ten devices, as well as an increased focus on privacy.
