The large Asian stock markets ended in the green Tuesday, having in particular surfed on new hopes of vaccines against the coronavirus and benefited from the announcement of a giant project of double IPO in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei flagship index, which stagnated on Monday, rose 0.73% to 22,884 points and the Topix widened 0.36% to 1,583 points.

Gains were even higher in Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng index rose 2.31% to 25,636 points.

Online payment giant Ant Group, close to Chinese e-commerce juggernaut Alibaba, said it had started proceedings for a dual IPO in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The prospect of this gigantic financial transaction boosted the Hang Seng on Tuesday, while the Shanghai Composite Index took only 0.2% to 3321 points. But Shanghai had already gained more than 3% on Monday, while Hong Kong had retreated slightly.

The composite index of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange gained 0.72% to 2,233 points.

Two Covid-19 vaccine projects, one British and the other Chinese, have achieved still early but encouraging clinical trial results that have been widely praised by the markets.

AxiCorp analyst Stephen Innes, however, warned against excessive market optimism on the therapeutic front: “Either Covid-19 can be treated and will soon disappear thanks to a vaccine, or the financial markets could experience an ocean of suffering, ”he said.

Asian stock markets were also carried by the new record level reached the day before by the Nasdaq index in New York, thanks to the strength of its major technology stocks, Amazon in the lead.

Pending a new plan to support the US economy, a good signal has also come from the European Union, whose 27 member states finally reached an agreement on Tuesday on a 750 billion stimulus plan. euros.

On Wall Street, the markets were preparing for an opening in the green. The futures contract of the Dow Jones, the flagship index of New York, rose 0.70% to 26,820 points, that of the Nasdaq gained 0.79% to 11,037 points, and the S&P 500 rose 0.75%, to 3,269 points.

In Europe, the Paris CAC 40 was up 0.99% at 5,143 points, the FTSE 100 was up 0.36% at 6,284 points, and the Dax was up 1.53% at 13,246 points.

On the oil side

Having started slowly during trade in Asia, the oil market accelerated markedly: around 8:30 a.m. the price of a barrel of US crude WTI gained 2.62% to 41.88 dollars and that of a barrel of London Brent rose 2.73% to 44 , 46 dollars.
