West Ham football coach David Moyes believes he will be able to count on Czech midfielder Tomáš Souček until Thursday’s European League match with Ghent. The 26-year-old did not finish the last league duel with Everton due to a facial injury, but according to an experienced coach, he should be ready after a minor surgery.
“Tomas is fine,” Moyes was quoted as official by the London club’s website. “But he certainly wasn’t comfortable with the various stitches,” he added.
Souček had to resign from Sunday’s league match at Everton in the 79th minute after he inadvertently stepped on the face of Salomon Rondon in a confusing fight. West Ham subsequently led the match 1-0 without a Czech midfielder and finished seventh in the table. “The next day another doctor crossed his lip. So he had stitches on his lip, face and nose. In three different places,” Moyes said.
The player himself informed the fans after the match on Instagram that he was fine. According to the English coach, he then stated that he wanted to start the match with Ghent. “Yes, he wants to play. So it’s up to us whether we decide to let him rest or put him on. But I don’t think his injury should be a reason for him not to play,” Moyes said.
“I also told Tomáš to look at my eyebrows. It also hurt a lot of scars in my career as a midfielder. A number of other stitches await him before he reaches this level,” the coach joked.
So far, West Ham has a full six points after two matches in the European League and leads Group H by three points ahead of Ghent and Dinam Zagreb.
