Stevie Wonder plans to leave the US for Ghana

Tired of the political tensions that animate his country, and the racism of his fellow citizens, the 70-year-old singer announces that he wants to leave the United States.

Stevie Wonder Announces in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that he plans to leave the United States to settle in Ghana, spotted CNN. The famous singer, aged 70, cites as his reason for leaving the political tensions that have animated his country for several years, as well as the racism of his fellow citizens.

“I want to see this nation smile again,” he explains to the famous interviewer. “And I want to see it before I move to Ghana, because that’s what I’m going to do.” “Are you going to settle permanently in Ghana?” Asks her, taken aback, Oprah Winfrey.

“A greater sense of community than in the United States”

And Stevie Wonder nods, before explaining that he refuses to let his descendants be racist: “Yes. I don’t want the children of my children’s children to be forced to say, ‘Love me. Respect- me. Esteem me for what I am worth. ‘ What is that?”

Stevie Wonder had already announced his plan to settle in Ghana in 1994. He said at the time he felt a greater sense of community there than in the United States. A native of Michigan, Stevie Wonder learned to play the piano, percussion and harmonica at age 9. He began a prolific singing career in 1961, at age 11. In 1984 he won the Oscar for Best Original Song for I Just Called to Say I Love You.
