Steam breaks records with 27 million users online

Steam has once again broken its own record for concurrent online users. This time, the platform managed to attract 27 million users online over the weekend.

It did not take too long before Steam broke its own record for the number of users online on the platform at one and the same time. The previous record was for 26.9 million users online at one time in April. Now they have managed to break this figure by reaching 27 million users logged in at the same time over the weekend.

This according to the website SteamDB whose purpose is to keep track of Steams .api to be able to present figures regarding everything related to the platform for those who are interested.

However, we have not seen the record for the number of users who actually play games broken since April 2020. This record was set during the time when more and more people started working from home or were stuck at home during a shutdown in connection with covid-19 becoming an increasing problem. During this time, the record was set which saw over eight million users play games simultaneously.

Exactly what caused users to flock to the platform over the weekend is not entirely certain. Steam has its autumn sale running until 1 December. Something that very well seems to have created a little extra interest in logging in and looking around the online store. This is also the time of year when game launches tend to be dense. Something that also applies this year with games like Halo Infinite, Battlefield 2042 and Forza Horizon 5 that were launched very recently.
