State Department Blocks Messages from World Leaders to President-Elect Joe Biden | Univision News Elections in the US 2020

The administration of Donald Trump is blocking the messages that world leaders are sending to the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, according to internal sources consulted by CNN.

The report indicates that the State Department refuses to deliver dozens of messages sent to him by foreign leaders to Biden and his transition team since last weekend, when his victory was confirmed.

Despite the blockade, Biden has already spoken with world leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, or Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

The president-elect has also spoken with the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and this Wednesday he spoke with the Prime Ministers of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, and with the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, as reported by his team.

Biden has made all of these calls on his own, without the help of the State Department, as is customary in other government transitions.

The Trump administration has denied Biden’s transition team access to the funds, information and contacts necessary to begin that task. It is also blocking intelligence reports known as the ‘President’s Daily Report’.
