Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some time ago, there was news that Alibaba would buy shares in PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk (FREN). The cellular operator is open voice about the news.
Smartfren CEO, Merza Fachys did not answer with certainty the truth of the news. But he said there was no impossibility about Alibaba.
“Alibaba has absolutely no impossibility. Only officially when the ink has been inked, we all want only one thing that FREN will develop and become a strong player,” said Merza during the FREN Public Expose, Tuesday (12/28/2021).
He explained that Alibaba is a successful global company in the e-commerce field. Then grow even bigger and become a big player like in cloud computing.
“We have a dream, even though we started with the telco, we started other businesses beyond the telco,” said Merza.
According to him, there is a dream for Smartfren to be beyond telcos. Future developments, one of which is developing telecommunication services, for example, next year can start with 5G.
Smartfren will also collaborate with local and global partners. This is done for the telecommunications digital business.
“Beyond telko, there are a lot of collaborations with local and global partners for today’s digital telko business,” he explained.
Previously, it was reported that the Alibaba company would buy FREN’s stake at the end of the year. This news comes after its subsidiary PT Mora Telematika Indonesia (Moratelindo) will acquire a 65% stake in a satellite management company, PT Indo Pratama Teleglobal some time ago.
