All life ahead of him
But recently, a day after his 80th birthday, he told Rosanna that he no longer wanted to be married. ‘I sat in my studio and turned around in my chair,’ Peter tells Story. ‘I philosophized out loud about my marriage and then decided to make a video recording of my thoughts. I talked about our lives, how Rosanna lives in London, I live in Amsterdam and that I no longer felt the same way as I did years ago when we said yes. I am eighty, she is sixty and has her whole life ahead of her. In which she will hopefully meet a loved one with whom she can always be together. Then I emailed the video to Rosanna, who was in my house, and I went for a walk.’
Released in love
When I came back, Rosanna said that she had seen the video and that she agreed with it. Then we watched the recording together again and we really came to the decision that divorce is the best solution. I wish her such a beautiful life. I let go of Rosanna in love. She is now free to build a beautiful life with another man.

Not that the man is already there… That’s the big difference with my previous love breakups. Back then there was always someone else involved. That is not an issue now. But I hope she does meet him. Until then, she is always welcome in my house. Things get a bit more complicated when she takes him along. But it won’t be painful for me. I fully support my choice.’
