The American chain Starbucks is going to close coffee shops in its own country because of nuisance from homeless people and drug addicts, CEO Howard Schultz announced. The company recently decided to close sixteen branches. According to Schultz, an unknown number will be added.
The first sixteen are coffee shops in the cities of Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, among others. It has not yet been announced which other branches will close.
“This is just the beginning, there will be many more to come,” said Schultz. The closure has nothing to do with bad numbers, because it concerns profitable branches.
Employees are increasingly confronted with crime and drug use in the toilets. The Starbucks CEO calls it shocking that store staff’s biggest concern is their own safety.
