Nearly 300 students in Staps, the sports sector, are demonstrating this Wednesday in Bobigny to ask for more teachers and decent infrastructure.
Classes without enough chairs or tables, sometimes done in the corridors of buildings that take on water and are poorly insulated. Several dozen students are demonstrating this Wednesday in Bobigny to demand better study conditions.
“On the Bobigny campus, we have one teacher for 52 students, while the national average is 1 for 17. The classes are overcrowded and there is a lack of infrastructure. They are not maintained, poorly insulated, some classes don’t have enough tables. We’ve already seen lessons practiced in the corridors”reports Timothée Brun, student in master 2 in Sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities (Staps).
Strong increase in registrations
According to a press release from the FAGE union, students have doubled in 10 years in this sector without the number of teachers following. In addition, this campus of the Sorbonne North University would be particularly affected.
“On infrastructure, there was a funding plan but it was not applied because the university does not have enough money. If we compare the national figures, this department is in the three most under- endowed with France”indicates the one who is also a member of the National Association of Staps Students (ANESTAPS).
The organizers thus hope to obtain additional means for their sector and warn that the movement could gain momentum at the national level.
