Stam succeeds Jans as trainer of FC Cincinnati ‘| NOW

Jaap Stam will be the new trainer of FC Cincinnati, according to various media on Thursday. The trainer is then the successor to Ron Jans.

American FC Cincinnati has yet to confirm the arrival of the 47-year-old Stam, but according to The Telegraph and Football International the deal is done.

Stam reportedly signs for a year and a half with the option for another season and takes Saïd Bakkati as an assistant. The 38-year-old Bakkati, who is currently still an assistant trainer at Feyenoord, has already worked with Stam among the Rotterdammers.

Stam has been without a club since October, after he was fired from Feyenoord after a short period. The former international, who will become the second Dutch trainer in the MLS alongside Frank de Boer, also worked at Jong Ajax, Reading and PEC Zwolle.

Gerard Nijkamp, the technical director of Cincinnati, announced at the end of last week that Stam would be the main candidate to become the new trainer.

Jans left Cincinnati earlier this year

FC Cincinnati was in the news this season because of the departure of Jans. The Dutchman’s adventure came to an end in February after he was accused of racism.

The US MLS, like many other leagues, has stalled due to the corona crisis. Cincinnati, where three Dutch players play with Maikel van der Werff, Siem de Jong and Jürgen Locadia, lost the first two games of the season that started in February.
