Square Enix Shows Early Footage Of Tomb Raider Horror Game That Was Delisted – Gaming – .Geeks

In honor of the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider, publisher Square Enix is showing images of a game from the series that was never released. It’s about Tomb Raider: Ascension, a horror-inspired game that Crystal Dynamics worked on for the 2013 reboot.

Square Enix shows several videos with prototype gameplay. These are images from a game that was in development around 2009 before Crystal Dynamics started the reboot of Tomb Raider, which finally appeared in 2013. The project initially had features of a horror survival game. For example, the videos show how Lara Croft attacks monsters with a flamethrower and hand weapons.

Tomb Raider: Ascension was an internal title. The game was never announced or completed. The horror concept was thrown overboard and a choice was made for a origin story, which eventually became the Tomb Raider reboot. According to Square Enix, the idea for this arose from the prototypes that have now been shown.

In addition to the early gameplay video below, Square Enix is showing a video with concept art and a video with box art and branding for the game. It appears that the game was in development for the Xbox 360.
