Swedish Expressen first reported that the Swedish company Skigo continues its collaboration with cross-country star Alexandr Bolshunov, despite the fact that other sponsors have broken with the Russian in the wake of the war in Ukraine.
Skigo is led by the former Swedish skier Christer Majbäck, who among other things has Olympic bronze and five World Cup medals on his CV.
Now he takes the magazine from his mouth in an interview with Swedish NSD, reproduced by Expressen.
– We have no cooperation at all, it is completely impossible. Then you do not even have to ask what I or Skigo think about the war in Ukraine. Every normal person is against it. I would like to meet the Swede who is not against it, I do not think it exists. It is just a tragedy, says Majbäck to NSD.
At the same time, he does not rule out that he may resume cooperation with Bolshunov on a later occasion.
– I do as with all other agreements, you get to see what the continuation brings. We can not use Alexandr Bolshunov in any way now and so it is for everyone else, like Rossignol who had his skis. But I feel you are portrayed as supporting a war in Ukraine, and that is completely unnecessary. It is so incredibly clear that you do not support it, says Majbäck.
Among other things, Skigo has sold a ski lubrication named after the Russian, but the product has been removed from the company’s online store.
