Sports policy – “Strong response”: Sports for Future draws positive conclusions from the first network meeting

Berlin (SID) – The “Sports for Future” initiative brought together more than 80 representatives from the fields of sport, science, business and politics at its first comprehensive digital network meeting. Among others, the Bundesliga soccer team FSV Mainz 05 was represented by CSR team leader Christina Mayer, third division Waldhof Mannheim by CSR officer Julia Best and the German Sports Youth by speaker Katharina Morlang.

The Olympic rowers Carlotta Nwajide and Fini Sturm as well as Miranda Wilson and Kai Schäfer from the national badminton team also took part in the virtual session. They talked about their environmental protection projects, with which they want to offset part of the emissions caused by competition trips and raise awareness of the special role of sport in the climate crisis.

“The strong response, the lively exchange and the committed commitment of all participants shows how relevant the topic of climate protection has become in sport,” said Stefan Wagner, 1st chairman of “Sports for Future”.
