Sport leads the fight against Covid-19

Since April 2021, the Maison Sport-Santé of Nîmes offers, as part of its “Move on prescription” scheme, physical activity sessions adapted to people who experience sequelae linked to Covid-19.

In the spring of 2020, the Covid entered the lives of the French. Suddenly and permanently. For many, for life. In thousands of people affected by Covid-19, the disease has indeed led to significant sequelae: fatigue, shortness of breath, depression… What solutions for these people? Since April 2021, the Maison Sport-Santé de Nîmes has been trying to help them as part of its “Move on prescription” scheme. “When people arrive, we already do a first interview and a physical condition check-up. This relates to characteristics like endurance, flexibility and muscle strengthexplains Sarah Pabion, coordinator of the Maison Sport-Santé in Nîmes. Questionnaires are also on the program, relating to the level of physical activity, quality of life, motivation… Then there is an eight-week program of adapted physical activities. Either these activities are offered by our association, people can then follow one or two sessions for free per week, or they can integrate activities offered by partner clubs, which are trained in healthy sports and adapted physical activity. People who have the consequences of Covid-19 can also join a home program: METSUP®. Nordic walking, free-fit®, cardio-health, gym-stretching are all physical activities adapted to the program. After eight weeks, a final assessment is made to see the evolution. » Monitoring and supporting patients with a long Covid, a logical continuation for the Maison Sport-Santé in Nîmes, which was already working in the services of people with chronic pathologies.
