Spider-Man will return to PlayStation 5 with Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, but even if you have the PlayStation 4 version, you cannot count on a free update. Sony confirmed the situation and issued a statement.

Last week, Insomniac Games convinced players that Spider-Man: Remastered on PlayStation 5 will be more than just a remaster. Then came a message from the developer that mentioned the lack of a standalone releaseand now Sony has spoken about the game.
The publisher has published a statement that can divide PlayStation fans:
“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man that was included in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PlayStation 4 can at no extra cost, upgrade to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and then can use the paid upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.
There are currently no plans to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone version. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 will also be backward compatible with PS5. “
As it turns out as a last resort, Spider-Man owners from PlayStation 4 will not get Spider-Man: Remastered for free on PlayStation 5, and they cannot even buy this production. A paid update is only possible when you buy Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PlayStation 4, then receive the free version for PS5 (Morales!) And in this case you will be able to purchase Spider-Man: Remastered for PS5.
Admittedly, this is fatal news, as players are basically forced to buy Spider-Man: Miles Morales in order to buy Spider-Man: Remastered – even if they have a PlayStation 4 title at home.
Sony, however, emphasizes that Spider-Man from PlayStation 4 will work on PlayStation 5, but of course without any improvements. This will be the usual Backward Compatibility.
