The Festival of Speed in Goodwood is now a traditional event, which in recent years has surpassed even large car showrooms. Many manufacturers regularly present their sports news here. However, as with other events of this kind, 2020 had to be canceled, for the sake of pandemic coronavirus. However, the organizers hurried with an interesting substitute.
Instead of the traditional July event, the so-called Goodwood SpeedWeek takes place this year, held this weekend as a replacement not only for the Goodwood Speed Festival, but also for the Goodwood Revival dedicated to historic racing vehicles. The event takes place directly in Goodwood, on the famous local track, but without the visitors present. They can watch the events exclusively online, for example, live on YouTube.
Internet viewers can once again watch an interesting mix of rally specials, formula monoposts and other racing cars, as well as news from the world of sports and super sports cars, from various historical periods. They will see them directly in motion, even during short races.
Despite its name, the three-day event, which takes place from Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October, will also celebrate 50 years since Porsche’s first Le Mans victory with 70 years of Formula 1. Land Rover once again commemorates 50 years of the first Range Rover. The organizers want to ensure that Goodwood is not completely without racing cars this year, as is customary in recent years.
In addition, despite its limitations, the week of speed in Goodwood has attracted a number of carmakers exclusively into the online world, which present themselves with their sports news. Perhaps only Volkswagen finally quickly canceled the participation of its electric special ID.R this week, due to the renewed acceleration of the spread of coronavirus not only in the United Kingdom, but throughout Europe.

Despite the absence of the Volkswagen ID.R, however, lovers of fast electric cars will have something to look forward to during Goodwood Speed. In addition to its roughly 50 historic vehicles, Lotus is showing its public to the public for the first time electric hypersport Evija. In Goodwood, you can see three pre-series specimens, one in the distinctive yellow Solaris and two in “prototype” camouflage, referring in black and gold to the once famous racing color of Lotus monoposts.
“Goodwood is a fast and smooth track with numerous waves on the surface, so it’s a fantastic test and demonstration of Evija, because it’s the type of environment where many owners will use the car.” says Gavan Kershaw, Lotus’s director of vehicle features, about participating in Goodwood.

Ford is also proud of its electric car, which is in Goodwood for the first time in Europe presents a special Mustang Mach ‑ E 1400. This is a unique showcar with an output of over 1,400 horsepower, which is to attract attention to the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover.
It introduces itself to Europeans for the first time Ford Mustang Mach 1, a new limited edition presented as the best controlled Mustang ever sold on the old continent. It is powered by a specially calibrated five-liter forked eight-cylinder with an output of 338 kW combined with a special six-speed Tremec manual (alternatively with a ten-speed automatic), which is complemented by new aerodynamic elements and specifically tuned MagneRide suspension.
However, there are several cars with conventional drive on display. Toyota has sent its Gazoo Racing division to Goodwood, which it represents, among other things unique hot hatch GR Yaris. Elfyn Evans, a rally racer and member of the Toyota factory team, who currently dominates the standings of the WRC Championship, will be behind his wheel.

If you would like to see something more special, there is McLaren Elva in Gulf color from the workshop of the MSO division (McLaren Special Operations), which specializes in individualizing the look of cars from Woking. In this case, the speedster powered by a 4-liter 599 kW eight-cylinder uses the iconic blue-orange combination that once appeared on the McLaren F1 GTR. The British carmaker has launched a new partnership with Gulf, which directly allows you to order this color through MSO.
