A tragedy has been averted.
A bus carrying 21 children from a Jewish school in New Hempstead in suburban New York went off the road, grazed a telephone pole, collided with several trees, two empty cars and finally a house.
Seven children were taken to hospital, five of whom were evaluated for minor bumps and bruises, while the other two, both aged 5, sustained more serious but not life-threatening injuries. The driver was also injured with minor injuries.
The causes of the accident are under investigation.
