Continental Hockey Leagues (KHL) general manager of the club “Spartak” Moscow Alexei Zhamnov believes that the postponement of the start of the season will not protect hockey players from possible infection with the coronavirus Covid-19, said an official in a conversation with “R-sport”.
The league plans to start the championship on September 2 with a game between Moscow’s CSKA and Kazan’s “Ak Bars”. The next day, several more teams will take part in the fight, including Riga’s “Dinamo”, hosting Nursultana’s “Barys” on their field.
From time to time, there are calls to postpone the start of the championship, as Russia has not yet been able to completely limit the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Although security measures are observed in the arenas, no one is protected from being infected with the coronavirus, because on a daily basis hockey players communicate with people, visit public places – restaurants, etc.
“Yes, we can postpone the start of the season, but hockey players will get infected the same way. This is an unpredictable process, no one can give any guarantees. All teams are about to start on September 2nd and 3rd. But no one knows how everything will happen next, ”said Zhamnov.
Earlier, KHL President Alexei Morozov revealed that if the team is unable to participate in the match due to Covid-19, it will be awarded a technical loss. He also stated that KHL does not plan to postpone the games to other dates.
