PRAGUE – Sparta’s football players won in the quarter-finals of the domestic cup in the Prague derby at the stadium of the defending champions Slavia 3:2 after extra time, although they were losing by two goals.
Ivan Schranz and El Hadji Malick Diouf gave the home team a two-goal lead in the match between last year’s MOL Cup finalists, but Victor Olatunji equalized between the 55th and 70th minutes. In extra time, in the 114th minute, Adam Karabec converted from the penalty spot.
Jaroslav Zelený, another Spartan substitute, was sent off in extra time. The Prague teams will meet again on Sunday in the league, where reigning champions Sparta will defend their four-point lead at the top of the table against Slavia. Letenský will play the semifinals of the cup for the sixth time in a row, their opponent will be determined by the draw on Friday.
