Spanish patient tests negative for Marburg virus, remains in isolation, more tests to follow

MADRID, February 25 (Reuters) – A man in Spain who was initially suspected of the deadly disease of Marburg is Saturday tested negative and does not have the virussaid the Ministry of Health.

Health authorities in Valencia said earlier that they had detected the country’s first suspected case of the infectious disease that has led to the quarantine of more than 200 people in Equatorial Guinea.

Test again

The 34-year-old man, who had recently been to Equatorial Guinea, has since been given the green light but will be tested again in the coming weeks, officials said.

He has been transferred from a private hospital to an isolation ward of Hospital La Fe in Valencia while tests are being carried out, Valencia’s regional health authorities said.

Three health workers who treated the man were also isolated as a precaution, authorities said.
