Spanish Cyclist Bio Bilbao Wins Tenth Stage of Tour de France, Pays Tribute to Fallen Teammate

The Spanish bike regained the euphoria of victories in Tour de France With the victory of its rider, Bio Bilbao, on Tuesday, in the tenth stage, five years after the achievement of his compatriot, Omar Freilly.

The main contenders for the overall standings crossed the finish line together nearly three minutes after Bilbao. Frailey was the last Spaniard to win this stage of the Tour.

Bilbao dedicated the victory to Swiss Gino Mader, his teammate in the “Bahrain Victorious” team, who died last month in an accident in the Tour of Switzerland.

“I had to do it for Gino,” Bilbao said. “It’s an incredible feeling, I’ve waited years for this. It was a dream to win at home because we started in Bilbao.”

Maidre Gino, 26, fell into a ravine and succumbed to his injuries the next day.

The stage stretched over 167 km from Vulcania to Issoire in France. And at the end of it, Danish champion Jonas Vengegaard maintained the lead in the general standings, 17 seconds behind Slovenian Tadi Bogachar.

Ranking of the top five in the tenth stage:

1- Spain’s Beyo Bilbao 3:52.34 hours

2- German George Zimmermann, same time

3- Australian Ben O’Connor, same time

4- Latvian Christis Nylands, same time

5- Colombian Johan Esteban Chaves, same time

Overall ranking:

1- The Dane, Jonas Vengegaard, 42:33.13 hours

2- Slovenian Tadi Bogachar, 17 seconds behind

3- Australian Guy Hindley, a difference of 2:40 minutes

4- Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez, 4:22 d

5- The Spanish Pyo Bilbao, a difference of 4:34 d
