Spain Park, Montevallo boys and Chelsea girls round out the top 10 — Shelby County Reporter

The girls from Spain Park, Montevallo and Chelsea complete the top 10

The latest basketball rankings were released Thursday morning, and Spain Park, Montevallo boys and Chelsea girls remain solid within the top 10. Fewer provincial teams received nominations this week after teams began competing. for district victories.

The Chelsea girls and Spain Park boys retained their top spot. Chelsea fell from eighth to ninth place after losing to third place in the 6A standings, Hillcrest 42-32. However, the Hornets clinched a district win against Oak Mountain. Chelsea are now 18-6 overall and 1-1 in their penalty area. The Hornets are scheduled to face No. 5 Hewitt Trussville on Friday, January 20.

Spain Park youngsters climb positions in the world ranking after falling from third to sixth place in the second week of the ranking. The Jaguars are now ranked #4 after district wins over Oak Mountain, Chelsea and Hewitt-Trussville. The Jaguars are now 19-3 and 3-0 in their district. Spain Park will face Oak Mountain again on Friday, January 20.

The boys from Montevallo continue to fight to stay in the top 10 after falling to tenth place in the 4A ranking. The Bulldogs had a tough loss against Thompson 62-43, but pulled off a close win against West Blockton 48-42. Montevallo is now 14-6 and 2-2 in his district. The Bulldogs host Bibb County on Thursday, January 19.

The Oak Mountain boys and Chelsea remain favorites for the third week in a row. The Eagles suffered three big losses. Oak Mountain lost district matches against No. 4 Spain Park and Chelsea. The Eagles recently lost to No. 7 Grissom in the tournament 256-205. Oak Mountain Park hosts Spain on Friday, January 20. The Eagles are currently 17-7 and 1-2 in their district.

The Chelsea lads have had some adversity of late after losing to Spain Park and Northridge, however the Hornets pulled off big wins over Oak Mountain District ahead of District’s next game, Hewitt Trussville, on Friday 20th January. 1-2 in your area.

The Thompson girls have had a few wins lately. The Warriors were nominated for the second week in a row after wins over Montevallo, Vigor and Orange Beach. Thompson faced some adversity with a big loss to No. 4 Vistavia Hills. The Warriors are 0-3 in their district and 15-8 heading into their next district game against No. 1 Hoover on Friday, Jan. 20.

Both the Helena and Pelham boys received 6A nominations. The Huskies have had some luck in their area with wins over Pelham and Briarwood. Helena is 15-8 and 2-0 in her district. Pelham had a few rebound wins after beating Leeds, beating Calera and dropping Briarwood. The Panthers are 15-8 and 2-1 in their district.

Boys Vincent received a nomination for the third week in a row in the 2A rating. The Yellow Jackets have dominated their district and are currently 14-4. Vincent held off both Westminster at Oak Mountain and Altamont in recent district battles.

The Alabama Sportswriters Association high school basketball rankings began with teams reporting the results to local sportswriters, who nominated teams for consideration.
