Spain Says he enjoyed his time in the Spanish team
It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola is one of the biggest backers of the Catalan independence movement and, in recent years, the likes of Santiago Canizares and Alfonso Perez Munoz have been critical of the Manchester City coach.
Canizares recently explained that he is part of a WhatsApp group for the Spain squad that won gold at the 1992 Olympic Games, but that Guardiola isn’t in it.
Now, in the documentary ‘Tocala otra vez, Pep’, the coach has explained why he’s not involved.
“In 1992, we had an incredible group that I know meet on WhatsApp,” he said.
“Canizares, I’m sorry, but you haven’t invited me. It’s not that I don’t want to be there.”
Guardiola then went on to discuss his happy memories of playing for Spain.
“I love Catalonia, my country, but I have immense affection for Spain and I keep an incredible memory of those years,” he said.
“Although the great Alfonso and Canizares are now very critical because I played for the national team… I had a great time and tried to do my best for the team.”
