Space Tourism – Fifth All-Short Trip for Jeff Bezos’ “Blue Origin”

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has sent another six people on a short trip into space. On board the “New Shepard” missile system, the passengers took off from the US state of Texas on Saturday morning (local time), as Bezos’ space company Blue Origin announced. The capsule, which was separated from the rocket during the flight, reached a height of 106 kilometers above the earth, at times with weightlessness.

A good ten minutes after separation, the capsule of the largely automated rocket system landed again with the help of parachutes. It was the company’s fifth manned space flight. This time there were five men and one woman on board, including investor Evan Dick, who had already flown in December 2021.

Most recently, the company had carried six space tourists into space at the end of March. On the first flight in July 2021, Amazon founder Bezos himself was on board. The second in October 2021 was attended by the then 90-year-old Canadian actor William Shatner, who became world famous with his role as “Captain Kirk” in “Star Trek”. The third flight in December 2021 included the daughter of the first American in space, Laura Shepard Churchley. (apa/dpa)
