The Social Democrats are proposing a state-sponsored 4-day week. This is intended to counteract the corona-related slump in demand, as is evident from a concept of the SP.
According to the SP, the costs of permanently reducing working hours by 20 percent should be shared between the AMS, the company and the employee in the first three years. AMS and companies would each take over a third and the employee would in turn waive gross of 6.6 percent – this is also a third of 20 percent. After the AMS funding ceases to exist, the social partners should then decide, depending on the industry, how the AMS share is divided between employers and employees.
From the point of view of the SP, all sides would benefit from the model. The state because the model costs less than short-time work, the company because the bottom line is that personnel costs decrease and productivity increases at the same time, and the employee because he receives around 95 percent of his original net salary while working hours are reduced to 80 percent.
“This safeguards and creates jobs, supports companies affected by the crisis and promotes the compatibility of family and work. The model is a modern, future-oriented regulation that creates more flexibility – for companies and employees,” explained SP- Boss Pamela Rendi-Wagner.
